When we’re out on the road, we see all kinds of different drivers. I wouldn’t blame you for feeling a little hesitant when you encounter some of them! Unfortunately, not everyone drives at a high level of skill. Many ignore the basic rules of road safety, and that puts our lives in danger as well as theirs. The next time you see the following types of behaviors, hang back a little and give them space in case things go wrong.
The Boy/Girl Racer
Unfortunately, there are young drivers out there that are filled with far too much confidence! Their obsession to show off in front of others puts others at risk as well as themselves. You’ll notice these sorts of drivers in their modded cars. They’ll come flying past you on the highway, and if they’re forced to stay behind you, they’re a little unpredictable. As soon as they get a chance, expect them to overtake you at high speed.
There’s nothing wrong with truckers from other countries and states, but they aren’t always familiar with the roads. For that reason alone, you need to give them a little more space than you normally would. Keep it in the back of your mind that they’ll be struggling to figure it all out. This is especially the case if this is their first time in the state! Obviously, an accident with a truck is potentially lethal for both parties. A truck accident lawyer will be the least of your worries; your safety will be in severe jeopardy.
The Learner Driver
We’ve all been told to go easy on learner drivers, and that’s simply because they’re still coming to terms with their new skill. I can tell you for a fact that as a learner, I didn’t feel comfortable in anything I was doing. It just makes things worse if drivers get frustrated with you. If you’re driving behind a learner driver, give them as much space and time as they need.
The Drunk Driver
You don’t need me to tell you that driving behind a drunk driver is something that should be done with extreme caution. You can’t tell if someone is necessarily drunk, but their actions behind the wheel should make it obvious for you. You’re looking for people who are swerving from side to side and driving erratically. You might find that they speed up and slow down at different times, and fail to follow the normal rules of the road. Stay back, and don’t get close.
The Indecisive Driver
Talk about frustrating! These are the drivers who don’t quite know how to get to their destination. Instead of driving normally, they’ll wait until the last second to make a harsh turn or last-minute lane change. You’ve got to be able to spot this sort of driver before they decide to carry out actions like this. You will sometimes only get a split-second to avoid danger with a quick maneuver. If you see someone like this on the road, hold well back and anticipate everything they might do.
